The Magic of Change
Each season presents us with opportunities to respond to change as either a loss or a little unexpected magic as we venture along the continuum of life. This fall I’ve moved from the Seacoast where I have spent the last 20 years, back to rural New Hampshire. The move has heightened my awareness of the fact that we are all responding to perpetual change all the time. It has become very clear to me that how we choose to incorporate that change affects our perspective and future happiness. Life is such a RAW adventure, but so damn interesting!
For me as a painter with overactive visual awareness, looking out on hay fields and clusters of native woody plants instead of the uninterrupted horizon of the NH/Maine coastline was strange at best and initially a bit of a shock—until my curiosity kicked in. Who farms these lands? How close is that cluster of ponds just beyond the horizon of pines? What nocturnal animals visit the outlying farm buildings at night? Where will I resume Plein Air landscape painting so late in the season?
As the holidays approach, I am wishing you comfort from the familiar and a bit of magic or at least “curiosity” as a result of the changing circumstances in your life (a reminder I have needed this year). Together, we will move forward in our discoveries by sharing them through our connection to one another and our unique expressions through art, music, writing and many other creative endeavors.
